Okay, I'm Madeline's dad. You gotta know that this took a huge amount of effort to clarify the mysterious world of wine into graphics that take mere seconds to understand. I couldn't be more proud. It's a lot of fun forcing on it friends and then seeing them light up with instant understanding. The page that explains how to write useful personal wine notes, for example, instantly organizes the way you do your evaluations of wine.

Such a lovely and well thought out book. The format provides you with building blocks for a better understanding of wine, wine regions, tasting profiles, the storage of wine, food pairings and the book includes flavor wheels for pretty much every varietal you can think of. This is definitely wine novice-friendly guide in that you can skim it for as much info as you care to know... but it's also a great reference for a true aficionado who wants to dig deeper or use it as a quick reference or review. The graphics make the presentation of info easy to grasp and fun to read, and the content is well written. I really like the phonetic help with some of the regions - "Blaufränkisch" wasn't exactly part of my vocabulary before. Using it in a sentence will be MUCH easier now that I have this book. :D

Don't miss the glossary of terms in the back - and the index! Definitely going to get a few more copies for holiday gifts this year.

An excellent advanced guide for designing and building shoji screens. The instruction is clear, concise and well presented. The author is a talented artist and effective teacher. I suggest also purchasing the first book in the series as there are exercises and tool recommendations that will help you learn a most complex form of art.

Background Depth - Set how deep into the model you want to see by using object masks or fog.

Camera Perspective - Position your camera to the view you want to see, and configure your field of view and perspective settings.

Style - Determine how your model will look. This includes render settings for the faces and edges in your model, but also includes specialty settings like watermarks, guides, and section planes.

Not only will you understand exactly what those five points are, you'll learn multiple ways to control them. Using these methods, you will gain complete control over the look of your viewports in LayOut. Excellent book!!

I am a architect trained in AutoCAD. Developing a familiarity many years ago with Sketchup as a design tool, took no small amount of effort, due largely to the fact that the two software's have many differences. Over the years I have utilized Sketchup mainly as a design/presentation tool. However, in the last few years I have tried to familiarize myself with sketchup in the Construction Document Phase of a project - hence Sketchup Layout! Working with Layout quickly manifested future alienation from AutoCAD's process. Purchasing and working through Matt Donley's "Sketchup to Layout" book has lessened the learning curve - something one cannot bill the client for!

This book is most helpful for beginners as well as more seasoned users of Sketchup/Layout. Text as well as graphics explain a presented process in a most user friendly manner. The format of text, graphics, illustrations, tips, etc. flows easily & logically from the book. Presented material is bundled and categorized in a manner that allows for ease of study as well as present & future reference. I particularly appreciated the "step-by-step" method of presentation of a given subject.

The author seems to have a excellent grasp of knowledge with Sketchup as well as Layout, particularly when comparing this book with many other books on similar subject(s).

No Nonsense Guide to Layout in SketchUp

If your design work is your bread and butter, this is THE way to learn how to produce production drawings from SketchUp Pro models. Matt takes you through setting up Layout's sheets, building a template and then sorts through the sometimes obscure settings and pitfalls in the transition to published drawings. The tips alone are worth the read. I Highly recommend this text be in your SketchUp Library.

Excellent presentation of a difficult subject!

I have have been a SketchUp user since it was first released by @Last, well before they were bought by Google. As a full-time woodworker, SketchUp is indispensable to me. When LayOut was introduced as a part of the SketchUp Pro package, I could see it's potential benefit in preparing client presentations for my custom furniture designs, but somehow it's connection to SketchUp was a bit too obscure & confusing to me.
I bought Matt Donley's ebook several months ago & it opened up a whole new world in the use of SketchUp. Matt is a natural educator & he knows his subject extremely well. SketchUp To LayOut covers LayOut and its integration with SketchUp thoroughly and in a well-ordered, step-by-step manner that is comprehensive and easy to follow. In addition, Matt covers several functions of SketchUp that I had never fully understood.
After reading his book, I upgraded to include the accompanying videos. These are excellent as well!

About the Author
Essence best selling author Jason A. Michael, a native Detroit and, in fact, a Spirit of Detroit award winner, earned his bachelors degree in journalism from Wayne State University. His work has appeared in the anthologies Journeys Across The Rainbow: Inspirational Stories for the Human Race (Rainbow Pride Press) and America Now (Bedford/St. Martin's Press). Jason has a passion for urban music and spent a decade in the employ of Grammy-award-winning songwriter and soul diva Betty Wright. As an entertainment writer he has interviewed everyone from Motown legends Martha Reeves and Mary Wilson to Dionne Warwick and Patti LaBelle. Outside of the urban genre, he has interviewed such wide ranging celebrities as Dolly Parton, Melissa Etheridge and even Boy George. Told by a laundry list of publishing houses that no one remembered Phyllis and that there was no market for a book about her, Jason formed his own imprint, JAM Books, on which to release her story.

A must-resd for any and all Phyllis Hyman fans.

I must first thank Mr. Michael for writing such an in-depth but sensitive biography of the late great Phyllis Hyman. Everything from her poverty-stricken childhood to her tumultous relationship with Arista Records' boss Clive Davis to her never-ending battle with chronic depression and bipolar disorder is covered. It's truly sad to think that someone as talented and gifted as Phyllis was unable to overcome her personal demons (despite really tring to). Sadly, we now know that (for all her beauty and talent) Phyllis was a tortured soul whose inner pain and insecurity led her to self-destructive behavior--unfortunately, those around her wouldn't (or couldn't) understand why. If you are a Phyllis Hyman fan you really should get this book but know that it IS heartbreaking as it is (to some degree) like watching a home video of her childhood up to her suicide at the age of 45. In retrospect, the real reason why Phyllis sounded so convincing on romantic ballads which dealt with pain, betrayal and lost love was because their lyrics mirrored her own experiences.

Don't be fooled by the superficial credibility that it is an authorized biography.

In short, it is not a very empathetic portrayal of Phyllis Hyman, and I think that it is slanderous. First, it must be said that writing a comprehensive biography about Phyllis Hyman would be a difficult task for the reasons that the author is unable to record her perspective and explanations of the events of her life. Thus, much of the content of the book is speculation.

Unfortunately, the author supplants the introspective and retrospective point of view of Phyllis with the symptomatology of bipolar Disorder and Depression, and commentary (or in other words, gossip) from her acquaintances and peers; some of whom seem to have very low estimations of her character and unsympathetic (sometimes harsh) opinions of her plight. Largely missing from this portrayal is any artistic, compassionate, imaginative or speculative representation of Phyllis Hyman's experience as herself: an American Black woman -who was born without sufficient security into a world that was and continually is abusive, greedy, racist, sexist, and violent -or in one word, inhumane. In place of any comprehensive, or relatable speculation about Phyllis' experience and its effects on her disposition and personality, the author mostly summates her life to alcoholism, drug abuse, salaciousness, and outrageous and outlandish fits. This egregious lifestyle is the attributed to her childhood -or bad parenting by the author, which is said to have contributed to her low self-esteem, mental illness, and her suspect character. Though it must be said that the author does give a general account of the music industry and its associates that Hyman encountered, and suggest factors that may have contributed to Hyman's commercial inviability. In addition, there are some accounts of her acts of kindness.

However, the author seems to marginalize and simplify Phyllis Hyman's experience of the world (and that of those around her), and gives an undeveloped description of the world in which she lived. For instances, Hiriam Bullock (PH Factor guitar player) mentions that a club owner made sexual advance at her and that after this she was motivated to leave Miami. The author gave no speculation as to what effect this may have had on her, and in general no contextual threads are drawn through the book, only personal ones -that mostly propose her inconsistencies and irregularity. This deficiency of context is not masked by the intimation that her life was sealed into a vacuum of fate, that the nature of her life and death was an inevitable result of her genetics and disposition.

Essentially, the author fails to make his book useful in general, but also to anyone that is invested in a comprehensive understanding of Phyllis Hyman, and her significance to culture and the human experience. I imagine that those with a genuine interest in Phyllis Hyman would expect that the book would reflect on how her experience and music as a testament to some redeemable aspect of her cultural influence, and to vividly illuminate to us some intricacies of our own experience. But, instead the relevance of Hyman's life and her work are relegated to a haphazard cautionary tale of innate mental illness (take your meds and love yourself), and thus we are given an oversimplified version of life.

It is my opinion that the book was poorly written: it is somewhat disorganized and repetitious, and failed to captivate my attention (after reading the first few chapters, I skim through it, driven by my curiosity alone), and it appeared not to be edited at all. In addition, it does not tell you anything that a google search would not reveal.

I think that the buy would be a waste of money and time. I would buy a CD in place of it. I paid $50 for the book and threw it in the trash. As one more out of circulation.
