In addition to consulting in the field, she was an Associate Professor at Purdue University Calumet, teaching or developing Microsoft Office, computer concepts, database management, systems analysis and design, and programming courses. This is sick. The publishers cannot be charging nearly $200 for a book on Microsoft Word, but they are. This is extortion and highway robbery. This book is only a reboot of the 2013 and what could possibly go into the production of this paperback that renders $200 a reasonable price?

All the pages were there but I at least expected the book to look presentable. It is torn from the side & it seems like the cover will come off soon. Some parts of the cover are also missing and the book looks very unwell-taken cared of.

Don't be deceived by the modest size of this self-made billionaire's autobiography. As if cramped by the limitations of the book's length, Michael Bloomberg's ego assaults the reader like an over-zealous vacuum cleaner salesman, pushing his ideas on life, work and excellence with all the energy that scores of superlatives can summon. Funny, then, that in many places the story comes off as a crashing bore.
"Bloomberg by Bloomberg" is ultimately redeemed by the compelling nature of the tale. More than anything the spectacular success of Bloomberg, L.P. highlighted the extent of the information technology revolution and the resultant productivity gains that transformed global industry. There's no question that Michael Bloomberg saw these changes coming, and in harnessing them created a company whose reputation for excellence, innovation, and customer orientation set a standard unmatched by any information services company before or since.
The author's pride in Bloomberg, L.P. suffuses the book, and he focuses so much loving attention on its birth and propsperity that at times this seems more like the story of a company than a man. The two are clearly of one soul. But at times it's easy to forget that this is the story of an extraordinary character and not an addendum to "In Search of Excellence".
This life story is one in which the input of outsiders would add tremendous insight. When Bloomberg discusses his dealings with his Harvard Business classmates, his trading buddies at Salomon Bros., or his employees at Bloomberg, it's easy to wish for their side of the story. As it is, the only hint we get of humility or insecurity from Bloomberg himself is his incessant reminder of the fact that he had been fired from Salomon Bros. ("though with a $10million severance), and that he had to call on every psychological resource to overcome this calamitous setback and move on to greater glory. Is he difficult? Has he ever been ruthless or cruel? Does he have any imperfections at all? You won't learn these things from Bloomberg by Bloomberg. And what he possibly doesn't realize is that these are the things that add color to a story, if not authority in the boardroom. Next time he should shop for a biographer. Maybe after he's moved on from the mayoralty to the Big Job, Doris Kearns Goodwin can do him justice.

First half great on business; second half pontification

Michael is clearly a hard driving CEO that has built an outstanding business. It is a great story and the building and history of Bloomberg is tremendous reading. The second half gets tiring fast; all entreprenuers have big egos, and his gets in the way as he dishes out advice on everything from education to family. Read the first half, skim the second.

The most arrogant, pompous, self-important autobiography I've ever read. Mike Bloomberg makes Barbara Cartland seem as modest as Ophelia and as talented as Shakespeare. Sloppily written, utterly devoid of irony or self-perception, it is the sort of book one might expecta Harvard MBA to write. But but but... it is a gripping and exciting story, and Bloomberg's energy, vision, and commitment are passionately communicated - his gradual destruction of Reuters and his building of a global media empire from scratch is a great yarn and he tells it well. His ideas on entrepreneurship and capitalism are less original than he might think, but the book is full of thoughts and ideas about being in business - it certainly stimulated me. Read it, if you have any interest in the media or in business - but with a pinch of salt please!

A little bit disappointing

I bought this book because it is about a very interesting subject of the 60s motor racing scene. It shows an attractive layout and contains lots of rare pictures not to be found elsewhere which makes the purchase worthwhile. But the information is a little bit disappointing. There is few more than a chronological description of the races which the Scuderia attended and the cars and the drivers. These facts you can find elsewhere. The book contains hardly background information which cannot be found in other sources. In addition there are more but a few errors about the facts. After all: My English isn't perfect but the author's isn't either.

As a whole considering the price a little bit disappointing and no more than 3 stars.

The Scuderia Filipinetti fantastic story happend in probably the best era of car racing...the sixties. The only ecurie to enter (sometimes in the same event)cars from the three big rivals, Ferrari, Ford and Porsche! Ed Heuvink take you with extreme details into the cars, the races and the drivers of that unique Swiss racing team. I was very lucky to be a mechanic at Le Mans in 1966, on the Scuderia Ford GT40. Those were magic years that I will never forget. Phil Henny

A very good complement to Ralph Kimball books

I highly recommend this book and I think that it's a very good complement to Ralph Kimball books. It's based on the same principles and theory, and expands the number of practical examples based on real industry implementation, so if you are lucky you can find many tips and data models that can be immediately applied in your projects.
You need to read the Kimball books first in order to fully understand this one, and of course some of the example are based on US companies, but most of the material can be immediately applied to other markets and Countries as well (like Italy where I work).
I think that the last chapters (13/14/15) which deal with topics like presenting information and the process to build a DW are a little less interesting, but they still contain some useful tips.

A good handbook on dimensional modeling

If you do not have 'The Data Warehouse Toolkit' by Ralph Kimball yet, you may want to buy this book. The techniques and approaches discussed in these two books are almost the same. The way this book is structured is very much alike that of the Kimball's book. But I liked the fact that the chapters are dedicated to particular business areas, not particular industries. In the chapter about marketing you will find examples for three industries. I liked Chapter 13, 'Presenting Infomation' which is full of tips on effective reporting. I liked also the chapter on financial reporting which gives a technical reader basic ideas of what finance is about. You will learn about balance sheets, income statments, cost allocation from the point of view of a data modeler. Of course, the book has all the terms and techniques one has to know to successfully build dimensional models. I did not like though the last two chapters which deal with methodology questions. You will only get a slight idea about how to integrate dimensional modeling into your data warehousing project. You will have to buy one of those books on methodologies to get a better insight into the question. In general, the book is very interesting. I gave it four stars for minor flaws - no one is perfect!

This is a novel

I foolishly began to read this as if it were an historical account to fit the title. I then went back to the preface material (that I ought to have read first) and discovered that this is historical fiction of a 20 year span of colonial history. The author purposely rambles because he wants to cover a large spectrum of material unrelated to Salem.
